UCCA and the organizers of Beijing Dance Festival are proud to present There/Now, a performance choreographed by Ma Bo and unfolding before the works of William Kentridge in the Great Hall. Incorporating Kentridge’s logic of “peripheral thinking,” Ma Bo a uses the movement of his body to respond to the social realities and cultural history of South Africa, creating a new dialogue with the exhibition space.

Choreographer/Artist

Ma Bo

Ma Bo studied at the Shanxi Provincial Song and Dance Theater. Having spent her formative years performing for the Guangdong Modern Dance Company and Beijing Modern Dance Company, Ma Bo became a founding member of BeijingDance/LDTX in 2005, where she now choreographs extensively. Her works include Variation of Red, Helpless, Garden of Memory, and several others. Her works have been performed across North America, Europe, and East Asia.

About The Beijing Dance Festival

The Beijing Dance Festival is co-organized by BeijingDance/LDTX, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, and City Contemporary Dance Company (Hong Kong). Together with the Guangdong Dance Festival and China Dance Forward (Hong Kong), they form the biggest contemporary dance event in China.
