UCCA Beijing

The Third China Independent Animation Film Forum: Chinese Animation Students Abroad

2014.9.6
14:00-16:00

Conversation
Location:  UCCA Auditorium
Language:  In Chinese only

Approximately thirty percent of animation majors in China go on to study the discipline abroad. Today, Chinese students attend some of the world's leading animation schools and universities, such as USC, UCLA, NYU, and ENSAD Gobelins. Students from mainland China can now also receive the highest academic degrees in animation from universities like the Royal College of Art and other schools that previously only accepted students from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Chen Liaoyu recently spent a period in the UK as a visiting scholar in animation. For this talk, UCCA invites Chen to address critical questions in international educational exchange: What do Chinese students experience when they study, live, and work abroad? What are assignments like in top international universities? What are the similarities and differences between higher education in China and abroad? How can Chinese students get into top schools outside of China? Apart from addressing scholastic concerns, the UCCA talk will also feature screenings and discussions of short films with the animators, all of whom have studied abroad.
